I Am A Passerby In A Xuanhuan World Chapter 4
Chapter 4 - Meeting the Patriarch
The twins, although still feeling that the 'punishment' they received wasn't enough, was satisfied enough to allow Huang Feiyun to leave the courtyard. Huang Feiyun was relieved inside. It was just an unconscious reaction on her side, but if it can make the twins stop asking her for punishment this or punishment that, she'd take the excuse. Right now, her main concern was to leave the courtyard as soon as possible so she can catch that old grandfather of hers.

Inside Tranquil Hall, the patriarch of Huang clan is having a conversation with an unexpected guest, the Crown Prince Shangguan Dan. Holding a tea cup painted with a beautiful scenery of a pink lotus in the middle of a lake, Patriarch Huang had a dignified look on his face. Sitting next to him, Shangguan Dan sat calmly with a smile.
A man well nearing his 70s, Patriarch Huang had a head full of white hair, with long beard covering his mouth to his chest. He was wearing a calm azure blue robe embroidered with the emblem of the Huang clan, a phoenix. His body was sitting in a straight position, showing his strict and proud temperament to the fullest.
As the master of the clan, Patriarch Huang is a well respected figure in Tianxing Empire, the country that they were residing in. He was also a powerful master, having reached Profound Nascent Soul stage by his age. His life was showered with pride as a member of a powerful clan such as Huang clan, except for one embarrassment: His own granddaughter, Huang Feiyun.
His youngest son, Huang Chenxi was a genius when he was alive and was the pride of his life. His son raised his own position in the army into a Marshall step-by-step, without using the power of the clan or even his father's name. His youngest daughter-in-law was also beautiful and talented. Together, both are a couple worthy to be envied by the whole empire. The couple sired a pair of children, Huang Riguang and Huang Feiyun, but then passed away soon.
At first, Patriarch Huang loved both of his grandchildren a lot. He was especially fond of Huang Feiyun, who looked alike with his youngest son when she was just born. Furthermore, the emperor also gave edict for a marriage between Huang Feiyun with the only prince of the empire, Shangguan Dan. So he loved her even more.
But that was only until she was 4. Spirit vein testing in Tianxing Empire starts at 4 years old, and Patriarch Huang, thinking that two powerful cultivators will create a more powerful cultivator for the clan, excitedly held the spirit vein testing in a mighty celebration.
Alas, he was not only disappointed, but also shamed. The little girl not only didn't have any spirit vein whatsoever, she doesn't even have the body that can cultivate!
Since then, Patriarch Huang started to become distant with Huang Feiyun so much that he'd even unconsciously humiliated the little girl when he was angry. This eccentricity irked Huang Chenxi so much that he decided to separate his family from the Huang clan and moved elsewhere, but before the whole procedure could finish, he and his wife were ordered by the emperor to help with the Demonic Beast Suppression.
Although Patriarch Huang disliked the granddaughter that made him ashamed, he really loves his son and daughter-in-law. The Marshall couple's death made him devastated for weeks.
Remembering of the talented grandson, Patriarch Huang decided to receive him back to be trained in the clan. But the boy was as stubborn as his father. Unless his sister was also taken in together, he would rather starve and die outside than returning to the clan. If forced, he would even dare to kill his sister and commit suicide so their whole family could reunite earlier.
An 8 year old child daring to threaten adults with words of killing and suicide, Patriarch Huang was helpless. Truthfully, he really didn't want to take in a useless waste back to the clan. But Huang Riguang was his youngest son's only heir, and he was also talented. So in the end he had to bring back both children to the clan.
He treated Huang Riguang as the pearl in his arms, complete with affection and the best condition to train and practice. As for what happened to Huang Feiyun, he didn't care. As long as she has shelter and enough basic necessities in the clan, he had given enough face to the royal family as well as Huang Chenxi's couple.
Thinking about the royal family, Patriarch Huang glanced towards the teenager who was still giving a sunny smile to him.
"Your Highness coming to this old man, is it for something?" Patriarch Huang asked straightforwardly. Shangguan Dan sipped on his tea, then calmly put the tea cup on the small table beside him. The smile on his face never disappearing.
"Patriarch Huang is wise. Actually, this Prince do have a little thing to discuss with--"
"Patriarch, Seventh Young Lady wishes to meet you," The sound of a servant interrupted Shangguan Dan's speech. He blinked. Huang Feiyun wanting to meet Patriarch Huang herself? This is very uncommon. He glanced at the old man sitting beside him, and saw the white eyebrows furrowed in annoyance at hearing the announcement.
Shangguan Dan smiled more brightly. Before Patriarch Huang can give out his order, the Crown Prince was the first to reply:
"It's been a while since this Prince saw Feiyun. Let her in."
"Eh? But..." The servant was a bit hesitant. The master of the clan is Patriarch Huang, but the Crown Prince is of high status. He glanced at the patriarch, and seeing that the old master didn't seem to disagree, immediately nodded and turned back towards the outside of the hall.
Huang Feiyun walked into the inner hall of Tranquil Hall with Ming You's help. Despite braving herself all the way here from her courtyard, her body was still heavily injured. She can only walk with the speed of a turtle just to make sure she doesn't aggravate her wound. Many times on the way, the Ming twins tried to discourage her but in the end kept their silence.
The master has decided, they as servants can only follow.
When Huang Feiyun entered the inner hall, her whole mind had been focused on Patriarch Huang. Only when she looked around did she realized the existence of another person inside the hall sitting beside her grandfather. Huang Feiyun was shocked. How come the Crown Prince is also here? As she thought that, Huang Feiyun's mind madly sprinted to the memory file about Shangguan Dan.
Shangguan Dan. Crown Prince of Tianxing Empire, the only son of the emperor and empress of the country. Tall, dark, handsome, rich, and talented. He's the perfect dream guy of every girl in Tianxing Empire, but he wasn't Huang Feiyun's perfect dream guy. Instead, the man is only a nightmare to her.
In no way at all has Shangguan Dan ever treated her badly, but he never treated her any specially too, which is a good thing for Huang Feiyun. He's cordial to her... even to the point of indifference. This treatment of his helped the previous Huang Feiyun to overcome any sort of attachment that she might have of him from being his fiancée, and also treated him with the same indifference.
But what irked her the most was the troublesome status of the Crown Prince's fiancée that was brought over to her. Those women who only have eyes on status and power, never thought at all about the viciousness of the harem.
Furthermore, this is a cultivation world. What's the point of having status when you're still a weak chicken in cultivation? If you can cultivate, go practice!
And so she'd avoid meeting face to face with Shangguan Dan whenever possible. Not like she can meet him often, though. As a god-level hikikomori (self-proclaimed), Huang Feiyun only stayed in her courtyard unless summoned. Except the last time she went out on a whim and had received a surprise attack by Huang Yaoluo, this is still her first time coming out her courtyard by herself.
Huang Feiyun bowed in courtesy towards the two. In accordance with the rank, she should first greet the Crown Prince, then her grandfather. As someone from the modern era, kneeling is not something she would be comfortable of doing, but the idiom do as the Romans do is not without a truth in it. Bearing the discomfort the injury on her body is giving her, Huang Feiyun pursed her lips before speaking:
"Feiyun greets Your Highness Crown Prince. Feiyun greets grandfather. Hope you both have been well,"
The twins, although still feeling that the 'punishment' they received wasn't enough, was satisfied enough to allow Huang Feiyun to leave the courtyard. Huang Feiyun was relieved inside.
